Dive resort Oceans 5 is a PADI Career Development Center located on the beautiful island of Gili Air. Gili Air is part of the Gili Islands in Indonesaia.

Oceans 5 conducts every month different instructor courses. During April and May people became DDI Instructor, PADI Instructor and PADI Specialty Instructor.

At the end of April Adeline started a 3 days DDI Instructor Course with DDI Instructor Trainer Sander. After 1 year to be a PADI Instructor she decided to get more knowledge about how to guide and to teach people with a disability. Every one is totally different and needs another approach. The course give you confidents to handle difficult situations but most of all it teach you to think outside the "PADI Box". At the end of the course you will be a more flexible instructor.

After the DDI Course PADI Instructor Viv decided to continue with her Master Scuba Diver Trainer preparation. She had already done, Deep, Sidemount and Nitrox. Now it was time for the Wreck, Digital Photography and Drift Specialty Instructor ratings. PADI Course Director Sander explain on land how important it is to use lines during a wreck penetration. He explained to het to make the knots, which kind of ropes and emergency procedures during penetrations.

The first of May also another PADI IDC has started at Oceans 5. This time Oceans 5 has 6 candidates from all over the world. PADI Course Director is Assar, and his assistant is PADI Master Instructor Joeri, who is accepted for the next PADI Course Director Course in June. Oceans 5 will have hopefully in June 2 resident PADI Course Directors in the house.

What a year for PADI IDC Gili Islands! Being part of a growing business on the Gili Islands brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment. Each year we see a growth in the amount of happy new dive instructors. Being a PADI Course Director has its challenges. Next to evaluating, explaining different ways to organize courses, transferring knowledge and making candidates understand the importance of standards there is a big psychological aspect that can be quite draining. As a Course Director you are affected by the disappointments and the success of all the candidates, making it an emotional ride from beginning to end. Everyone, who has all the necessary prerequisites, can become a dive instructor. There is no discrimination in this field. This means that we get IDC candidates from all over the world, with different backgrounds and of different age groups.
